Ag Week book donations

During Ag Week, Hancock County Farm Bureau Manager Jade Miles had the opportunity to visit Hancock County schools to donate books about agriculture to their second-grade classrooms. The book for 2024 was called “Sprout Branches Out,” and tells the story of a small porch plant in a small town thinking she needs more. She branches out into the world and turned out to be more than she bargained for. Sprout ends up back on her little porch right where she belongs and began to sprout! Every second-grade classroom received the book to add to their classroom library. After reading the book aloud to the second-grade classes, students enjoyed “Dirt Pudding,” which included pudding, an Oreo, and a gummy worm. An activity was also provided allowing students to plant their own sprout to watch grow!

Carthage Farmers Market begins May 13Opening day for the Carthage Farmers Market is set for Monday, May 13. The market will be held from 12-3 p.m. each Monday from May 13 through October, on the northwest corner of the Hancock County courthouse lawn in Carthage.

Vendor space at the Carthage Farmers Market is based on a first-come, first-served basis. No items may be purchased until 12 p.m. to give the vendors time to set up their booths. The cost to vendors is $5 per week, or a $75 season pass for a reserved space. The market is also ideal for group fundraising.
