CARTHAGE, Ill. – Kenneth Rae “Kenny” Thompson, 79, of Carthage, Illinois, passed away Sunday morning, March 3, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Kenny was born Oct. 25, 1944, the son of George Milton and Carol Anne (Kyle) Thompson in LaHarpe, Illinois.

He graduated from Carthage High School in 1962.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, did a year tour of duty in the Vietnam War, and received his honorable discharge on Nov. 1, 1968.

On Aug. 8, 1965, he was united in marriage with Carol Lee Hoing. She preceded him in death in 2020.

Kenny was well known for his visiting and love of truck driving. He was a lifelong truck driver and ended his career driving locally for Martin and Sullivan Farm Equipment.

Kenny is survived by great-grandson Tristen Hermann; granddaughter Tracy Hermann; great-grandchildren, Billy Hermann, Chappell Thompson; sisters-in-law; Roberta Bruenger and Evelyn Hoing; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Barb Hayes; great-grandson, Nicholas Blair; brother William Haze Thompson; sister, Martha Anne Fritz; brothers-in-law, Warren Fritz, Charles Hoing, Don Hoing, Dale Bruenger, and Wayne Bolton; and sister-in-law Judy Bolton.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage, with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
